Bluestone Energy has received planning permission for a 49.5-megawatt solar farm in Renfrewshire, Scotland, marking its largest project to date and a key step in its transition from developer to independent power producer (IPP).
The Middleton Farm solar scheme was approved following a planning process led by Cogeo Planning & Environmental Services, which conducted environmental assessments, technical studies, and community consultations to meet regulatory and ecological requirements.
“Securing planning permission for Middleton Farm is a proud moment for Bluestone Energy,” said chief executive Freddy White. “It reflects the hard work and passion of our entire team—from land and planning to engineering and community engagement.”
White added that the project is “central to our strategy to transition from developer to IPP, and it sets a new benchmark for what we can achieve.”
The company said its in-house team, led by Dave Robertson, Sat Ubhi and Dan Sadler, secured land rights, grid connection and planning approvals. Bluestone is targeting a final investment decision in 2026, with construction expected to begin shortly thereafter.
Discussions are ongoing with Glasgow and Renfrewshire councils regarding a potential power purchase agreement (PPA) aimed at supplying affordable electricity to the local area, the company added.
Bluestone currently has a development pipeline of over 4 gigawatts across solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects throughout the UK.
