German utility RWE has brought online five new renewable energy projects in France this summer, adding a total of 83 megawatts (MW) of wind and solar capacity. The installations, which include four wind farms and one solar farm, are expected to supply electricity to approximately 40,000 households.
The projects are located across the Hauts-de-France, Normandy, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions. Construction began in 2024 after RWE secured contracts in the French Energy Regulatory Commission’s (CRE) 2023 tenders for onshore wind and solar development.
In the Hauts-de-France region, RWE commissioned the 21.6MW Catillon-Fumechon wind farm, consisting of six turbines. It also completed the 29.2MW Catésis-Bois Marronnier wind farm with eight turbines in Troivilles and Reumont, and added four turbines totaling 19.2MW to its existing Nouvions wind farm.
In Normandy, the 9.6MW Ormesnil wind farm was brought online with two turbines. Meanwhile, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the company installed 7,420 solar modules at the Les Pierrières photovoltaic plant in Ardillières, contributing 4.2MWp of solar capacity.
“The commissioning of our five new wind and solar farms within just a few weeks is testament to the capabilities of our French teams in managing multiple projects simultaneously,” said Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.
Wünschel added, “The projects can supply green electricity to around 40,000 French households. In our journey to support France in building a clean, stable and cost-effective energy supply, we are using the French wind and sun.”
RWE noted that further wind power developments are in the pipeline as it expands its presence in the French renewables market.
