Hyundai Heavy Industries has received international certification for its in-house developed 500MW offshore substation, as the company seeks to enhance its presence in the global offshore wind market.
The International Design Verification Certificate was issued by classification society DNV, confirming the substation meets global technical standards and design requirements, Hyundai said on Friday.
The model, designed and engineered internally, incorporates key equipment and materials sourced domestically. Hyundai said this approach helps stabilise the supply chain while supporting collaboration with local manufacturers.
According to the company, the substation features a standardised design tailored for large-scale offshore wind projects, aligning with South Korea’s broader objectives to expand renewable energy infrastructure and develop a domestic supply ecosystem.
“With this certification, we plan to launch full-scale order-winning activities in the offshore wind power market,” said Won Kwang-sik, head of Hyundai’s marine energy division. “We will develop offshore substation models with various capacities and shapes to expand our product portfolio and strengthen our competitiveness.”
Hyundai said the newly certified substation is expected to contribute to both international project bids and domestic offshore wind developments, in line with national energy transition goals.
