Taiwan-based Synera Renewable Energy has selected local firm Century Group to supply turbine foundations for the 800-megawatt (MW) Formosa 6 offshore wind farm, the companies said.
Century Group will provide 57 jacket foundations and 180 pin piles under the contracts, which Synera described as Taiwan’s largest offshore wind turbine foundation collaboration to date.
Formosa 6, located off Taiwan’s west coast, is the country’s largest offshore wind project by capacity and the only project in Taiwan’s Phase 3.2 development round to advance to this stage, Synera said in a statement.
The company said the contracts support broader efforts to localise the offshore wind supply chain in Taiwan and will play a key role in meeting grid connection targets and growing demand for renewable energy from domestic industries.
“With deep roots in Taiwan, we are proud to accelerate offshore wind power hand in hand with local suppliers, meeting pressing green energy demands of the nation’s strategic industries and building a more sustainable tomorrow,” Synera said.
The Formosa 6 project is part of Taiwan’s national strategy to expand renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels. The government has set a target of 15 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2035.
