Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has commenced construction on the onshore substation for the 500-megawatt Fengmiao offshore wind project, a key development in Taiwan’s Round 3 offshore wind initiative.
The substation, located in Taichung, will serve as the main transmission hub for the Fengmiao project. In a statement, CIP said the facility incorporates sustainable design elements and community-friendly features aimed at integrating the project into the surrounding area.
“These include a grass slope landscape, public art installation titled ‘Valley of Wind’, open green spaces, and an exhibition area designed to raise public awareness of renewable energy,” the company said.
In collaboration with local partner TECO, CIP also introduced a new pre-stressed concrete pile welding method. Described by the company as a first in Taiwan, the technique is intended to improve lifting efficiency, reduce operational risks, and streamline construction processes.
“The start of substation construction represents a significant milestone for Fengmiao,” CIP stated, adding that the development reflects ongoing progress in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector.
The Fengmiao project is among the first developments under Taiwan’s Round 3 offshore wind auction, as the government continues to push forward with its energy transition and emissions reduction goals.
