Ocean Winds has completed the installation of 30 out of 61 turbines at the Iles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm off the French Atlantic coast, marking the halfway point in the project’s turbine installation phase.
The 496-megawatt development, located off the Vendée region, is now generating electricity sufficient to supply approximately 400,000 people—around half the local population, according to the developer.
“This milestone marks the installation of half of the wind farm’s turbines and therefore half of its total capacity,” Ocean Winds said in a statement. “It is a key step forward for our offshore wind portfolio in France.”
The project features Siemens Gamesa wind turbines and involves collaboration with a number of partners, including marine contractor Jan De Nul, the Grand Port Maritime de Nantes Saint-Nazaire, and several local subcontractors. The developer noted that the milestone reflects coordinated efforts among project teams and regional stakeholders.
The wind farm is scheduled to be fully operational once all 61 turbines are installed and commissioned.
