Taiyo Power & Storage has received planning approval for a 9-megawatt peak (MWp) extension to its Moss Farm solar project in Sefton, Merseyside, the company said on Tuesday.
The project, a joint venture between Kajima Partnership and Low Carbon Alliance, is expected to supply clean electricity to more than 6,000 homes and contribute to regional carbon reduction and energy resilience efforts.
The extension forms part of a broader development plan by Taiyo to deliver around 22MWp of renewable energy capacity across adjacent sites, including land previously used as landfill west of the A565. The company said the project will be built on land with limited agricultural value and has been designed to minimise visual impact.
“This planning decision marks a key step forward for Taiyo in its mission to deliver the solar energy assets needed to improve the UK’s renewable energy capacity,” said Simon Crowe, Director at Taiyo. “In addition to generating green energy to power UK households, the construction and operation at Moss Farm will create new skilled jobs for the local area.”
The project has been granted a 40-year planning consent and includes ecological measures such as hedgerow planting and meadow grassland creation. According to Taiyo, the scheme is expected to deliver a biodiversity net gain of 133.85%, supporting wildlife habitats and enhancing green corridors in line with Sefton Council’s environmental goals.
Since its launch in 2021, Taiyo has developed a portfolio of ground-mounted solar and battery storage projects across the UK.
