Swedish renewable energy developer OX2 has agreed to sell its 96-megawatt (MW) Ansthall onshore wind project in eastern Romania to Helleniq Renewables, a subsidiary of Greece’s Helleniq Energy Holdings, the company said on Thursday.
The wind farm, located in Bacău County, will consist of 15 Vestas turbines rated at 6.4MW each. Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with commissioning expected in 2027.
The Ansthall project includes a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) with multinational retailer Ahold Delhaize, covering more than half of the wind farm’s expected output.
“The transaction with Helleniq Renewables demonstrates how OX2 develops its Romanian portfolio by progressing projects to financial investment decision,” said Lacramioara Diaconu-Pințea, country manager for OX2 Romania.
“We’re strategically positioned to become one of the leading renewable energy companies in Romania while making a meaningful contribution to the country’s renewable energy objectives and energy transition goals,” she added.
The deal marks a further step in the expansion of Romania’s wind energy sector, as the country aims to increase its share of renewables in the national energy mix.
