Swiss energy company MET Group has brought its first German solar project online, with the 11.5 megawatt-peak (MWp) Kentzlin solar park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania now feeding electricity into the grid.
The plant is expected to generate approximately 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of around 3,600 households, the company said in a statement.
Originally acquired in 2023, the Kentzlin project was developed and constructed by MET in collaboration with engineering partner IBC Solar. The project also secured a contract through Germany’s Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) tender process.
“Bringing Kentzlin into operation is a major achievement for MET’s renewables activities and a key step in our strategy to grow in Western Europe,” said Christian Hürlimann, CEO of renewables development at MET.
MET, which already operates in Germany’s gas and power markets, described the solar park as a foundation for expanding its renewable energy portfolio in the country. No additional details on future projects were disclosed.
