The 88MW Hywind Tampen floating wind farm has recently commenced the provision of clean electricity to the Snorre oil and gas field installations in the Norwegian Sea.
The production of Hywind Tampen initiated in November 2022 by supplying power to the Gullfaks field. At present, both fields have become operational, with 10 out of the 11 turbines of Hywind Tampen already installed. The final turbine is scheduled to be deployed offshore during the upcoming week.
Hywind Tampen holds the distinction of being the first wind farm globally to power oil and gas installations. It is anticipated to fulfill approximately 35% of the electricity requirements of the Gullfaks and Snorre fields once it reaches its full capacity, resulting in a reduction of approximately 200,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
The wind farm is jointly owned by the partners involved in the development of the Gullfaks and Snorre oilfields, namely Petoro, OMV, Vår Energi, Wintershall Dea, and INPEX Idemitsu Norge.
