Orsted has completed the installation of all 66 suction bucket jacket foundations at its 920-megawatt Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms off the coast of Taiwan, the company said this week.
The final foundation was installed ahead of schedule following the start of offshore work in April, with Heerema Marine Contractors carrying out the installation.
Orsted said the project team navigated limited weather windows and challenging sea conditions, including the passage of Typhoon Danas, which the company noted had no impact on previously installed jackets and turbines.
“Our frontline team swiftly regrouped and resumed offshore work, making the most of every suitable weather window to keep the project moving forward,” Orsted said in a LinkedIn post.
The developer described the milestone as one of the largest deployments of suction bucket jacket foundations in the Asia-Pacific region, noting the technology’s “near-silent and low-disturbance installation characteristics.”
With foundations in place, turbine installation and subsea cable laying are now under way. Orsted said that ongoing offshore operations will continue to be governed by weather conditions and safety protocols.
