X-ELIO has commenced operations at its 14-megawatt Funaki solar plant in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, contributing to Japan’s net-zero targets and supporting Amazon’s decarbonisation goals.
The photovoltaic facility, built on the site of a former golf course, is expected to produce more than 17,200 megawatt-hours of electricity annually. All output from the plant has been contracted to Amazon under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
The launch of the Funaki plant reinforces our long-standing presence in Japan and our role in driving forward its energy transition,” said Luis Perezagua, country manager for X-ELIO in Japan. Beyond energy generation, we remain committed to delivering value to the communities around our projects.
X-ELIO, a Spain-based renewable energy developer, has built 393MW of solar capacity in Japan to date and holds a local pipeline of 396MW, which includes both solar and battery storage projects.
As part of its community engagement plan, the company has also donated emergency response equipment to Ube city, including a power generator and tents.
