Fred Olsen Renewables has temporarily taken its 64-megawatt Paul’s Hill onshore wind farm offline due to a wildfire near the site in Moray, northeastern Scotland, the company said on Monday.
Emergency services are currently responding to the fire, which is located “in the vicinity” of the 28-turbine wind farm near Elgin. While no damage to infrastructure has been reported, the company said the shutdown was a precautionary measure.
“There is no immediate threat to people, or damage to our infrastructure, but as a precaution we have temporarily halted production at the wind farm,” Fred Olsen Renewables said in a statement.
The company added that it had activated its emergency response organisation and is working in coordination with local authorities to monitor and manage the situation.
Paul’s Hill wind farm, commissioned in 2006, is equipped with Siemens 2.3MW turbines.
No timeline was provided for when operations at the site might resume.
