Tokyo Gas and Danish utility EWII have acquired two onshore wind power projects in Finland through their joint venture TOWII Renewables, marking the venture’s first renewable energy investment outside of Denmark.
The projects — Kopsa 3 and Ketunperä — are located in the city of Raahe, North Ostrobothnia, and were developed by Finnish renewable energy company Puhuri. A total of 12 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 74.4 megawatts (MW) are planned, with commercial operations expected to begin in the first half of 2027.
The acquisition comes as Finland seeks to expand its renewable energy production, aiming to reach a 51% share of renewables in final energy consumption by 2030.
TOWII Renewables is a joint venture between TG Nordic, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, and Danish energy company EWII. The investment aligns with both companies’ broader strategies to scale up clean energy capacity.
“Tokyo Gas Group is committed to achieving net-zero emissions and has pledged to continue to contribute to local communities by strengthening partnerships with business partners and developing renewable energy sources,” the Japanese utility said in a statement.
The transaction underlines growing international interest in Finland’s wind energy sector, supported by favorable conditions and government targets for carbon neutrality. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
