Specialist contractors have completed a 420-kilometre seabed survey for the export cable of the proposed 3.6-gigawatt Ossian floating wind farm, the developers said on Thursday.
The month-long benthic survey covered 122 sites along the cable route, stretching from the offshore wind array located 84 kilometres off the Aberdeenshire coast to the landfall point in Lincolnshire.
“The data will support engineers and EIA consultants in identifying viable cable routes,” said Anne-Charlotte Gaillard, benthic survey project manager.
Ossian is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Marubeni, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The project remains subject to planning consent, securing a route to market, and a final investment decision.
The benthic survey follows a 13-month uncrewed geophysical survey completed in January, which successfully withstood 11 named storms during its course.
