Danish renewable energy company Eurowind Energy has announced plans to develop a 220 megawatt (MW) solar power project in Vișina, Dâmbovița County, in what will become the firm’s largest project in Romania to date.
The €174.8 million development is projected to generate 400 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually—enough to supply around 150,000 households—according to the company. The facility will span approximately 354 hectares and include over 400,000 photovoltaic panels.
“The Vișina project is a significant milestone for us – we’ve been working on it for several years, and we’re excited to see it moving closer to the construction phase,” said Adrian Dobre, Eurowind Energy’s country manager for Romania.
The company also noted plans to incorporate storage capacity where necessary, aiming to support grid stability and contribute to the long-term development of Romania’s renewable energy sector. “We always think long-term, and where needed, we are ready to integrate storage solutions,” Dobre added.
As part of the investment, the project includes upgrades to a 7.5-kilometre agricultural access road, which will remain publicly accessible.
This marks Eurowind’s fifth solar project in Romania, following developments in Hălchiu, Măgurele, Pufești, and Teiuș. The company expects to have 124MW of installed capacity operational in Romania by the end of 2025 and is developing a pipeline of approximately 7.5 gigawatts (GW) across solar, wind, hybrid, and storage technologies.
Eurowind Energy currently operates in 16 markets across Europe and North America.
