Irish semi-state energy company Bord na Móna has appointed Jennings O’Donovan & Partners as owner’s engineer for the third phase of the Owenniny wind farm in County Mayo, marking a new step in the country’s largest onshore wind project.
The Owenniny 3 development will include the installation of 18 turbines, along with supporting infrastructure, and is part of Ireland’s broader strategy to generate 80% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, in line with targets set in the Climate Action Plan 2024.
The project is also expected to contribute to national energy security and support low-carbon economic development, the company said.
Bord na Móna is currently developing a 5-gigawatt (GW) pipeline of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, biomass and biogas.
“We continue to work with trusted partners to deliver transformative energy solutions, while investing in the communities we serve,” the company said in a social media statement.
The Owenniny wind farm has been developed in phases and is a key component of Ireland’s efforts to meet both national and EU climate targets.
