Renewable energy developer VSB Group has commissioned the 9-megawatt-peak (MWp) Soleil de Balsac solar plant in southern France, repurposing a former clay and gravel extraction site into a clean energy facility.
Located in the Aveyron department, the ground-mounted project consists of 16,740 solar panels and is expected to produce approximately 10,550 megawatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to power around 5,000 households. The project is also estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 2,500 tonnes per year.
“Soleil de Balsac demonstrates how VSB contributes: we transform disused land into future hubs of the energy transition,” said Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group.
The project was developed by VSB’s French subsidiary and reflects the group’s strategy of expanding its solar footprint across Europe. VSB France managing director Maël Lagarde said the plant “provides a valuable contribution to the region’s energy supply.”
VSB Group, headquartered in Germany, is actively developing renewable projects across Europe. Its portfolio includes the 19.3MWp Löberitz solar plant in Germany, a 300MWp solar-plus-storage development in Poland, and a planned hybrid wind, solar and storage park in Puutionsaari, Finland.
