Chinese manufacturer CWHI has completed the first of 32 XXL monopiles for the Inch Cape offshore wind farm, a 1.1-gigawatt (GW) project being developed off the east coast of Scotland by ESB and Red Rock Power, the company said on Thursday.
The components were fabricated at CWHI’s Qinzhou facility and include monopiles measuring up to 110 metres in length, with outer diameters of 11.5 metres and weights reaching 2,300 tonnes.
Once operational, the Inch Cape wind farm is expected to provide enough electricity to power more than half of Scottish households, according to the developers.
CWHI—CNOOD-Wenchong Heavy Industries—said the delivery marks a significant milestone in its participation in large-scale offshore wind infrastructure.
“Leveraging our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, skilled workforce, and industry expertise, we are proud to support the global transition to clean energy,” the company said in a statement.
The Inch Cape project is among several major offshore developments planned in the UK aimed at expanding renewable energy generation and meeting national climate targets.
