Engie Romania has completed the acquisition of the Mereni wind project, a 54-megawatt (MW) wind farm located in Romania’s Constanta county. The company has confirmed that the project site, known for its high wind potential and strong green energy yields, is now at the “ready to build” stage, with all necessary building permits in place.
Construction of the Mereni wind project is set to begin by the end of this year, with the facility expected to be commissioned in 2027. Engie Romania, a subsidiary of the multinational energy company Engie, emphasized the project’s role in its broader commitment to the energy transition and expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
“This acquisition reflects our constant commitment to actively contribute to the energy transition, by developing a diversified portfolio of renewable projects,” said Cristian Buzan, Deputy General Manager of Engie Romania. “We continue our evolution with concrete steps, supported by the ambition to be a reliable partner for our customers, offering sustainable and competitive solutions, adapted to their long-term needs.”
The Mereni wind farm adds to Engie Romania’s growing portfolio of renewable energy assets, which includes three existing wind farms with a total installed capacity of 178MW and five solar farms generating 33MW. The company is also preparing to bring online a new 37.2MW solar plant in Aricestii Rahtivani, Prahova county, in the near future.
Engie Romania operates a total renewable energy capacity of 211MW and continues to focus on expanding its renewable energy footprint across the country.
