UK-based Reblade has launched a new consultancy service focused on wind farm decommissioning, expanding its operations beyond turbine blade repurposing to support the broader end-of-life needs of the renewable energy sector.
The new offering provides full-spectrum support to wind farm operators, covering strategy development, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and on-site project management. The move comes as many of the UK’s first-generation wind farms near the end of their operational lives.
“Our expansion into full decommissioning consultancy was driven directly by client demand,” said Reblade co-founder Steven Lindsay. “They needed partners who could help them plan and manage the decommissioning of entire wind farms. That’s what we are now able to offer.”
Reblade’s consultancy model allows operators to access a specialised external team, reducing the need for in-house capability for what is typically a one-time or infrequent requirement. The service includes the development of site-specific strategies, decommissioning scopes of work, and budget forecasting, with a focus on minimising environmental impact and costs.
The company has assembled a multidisciplinary team of project managers, planners, and ecologists to support the consultancy arm, aiming to offer practical solutions grounded in field experience.
“Proper decommissioning planning significantly reduces costs and environmental impact,” Lindsay added. “Our approach incorporates best practices gained from hands-on experience bringing down wind turbines, processing blades, and reinstating land.”
Managing Director Fiona Lindsay said the new service reflects a shift in the industry’s priorities as assets age. “As the wind energy industry matures, having experienced partners for end-of-life management becomes increasingly vital,” she said. “Our goal is to transform decommissioning from a potential liability into a well-managed process that protects operators’ reputations and optimises costs.
