Swiss energy group Axpo has signed a short-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDF Renewables Hellas for the entire output of two solar farms located in Greece’s Viotia region, the companies said on Monday.
The agreement covers electricity generated by the Skala Korinis and Loutsa solar plants, which were commissioned in 2023 and have a combined installed capacity of 102 megawatts (MW).
“This agreement reinforces Axpo’s ability to provide innovative and tailored renewable energy solutions across central and south-eastern Europe,” said Vasilis Machias, managing director of Axpo Greece. “By leveraging our expertise as an international market leader in renewables, wholesale trading and risk management, we’re further optimising our portfolio in the region, while also supporting the energy transition.”
The transaction is part of Axpo’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy trading and supply operations in Southern Europe, where it already manages a portfolio of wind and solar energy contracts.
Antonis Xenios, chief executive of EDF Renewables Hellas, welcomed the agreement and its role in advancing clean energy deployment in Greece. “This collaboration reinforces EDF Renewables’ dedication to maximise the potential of renewable energy and accelerate the energy transition, contributing to the decarbonisation of the Greek economy,” Xenios said.
The PPA reflects a growing trend in Greece and across Europe of corporate and utility buyers securing power from renewable sources to meet energy transition goals and manage price volatility in wholesale electricity markets.
