The installation of the final turbine at the 450MW Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland has been completed, marking a significant milestone for the project. The 54th turbine was installed in the early hours today at the site, located 15.5 kilometers off the Fife coast, covering an area of 105 square kilometers.
The £1.8 billion project is a joint venture between EDF Renewables UK and Ireland and ESB. Once fully commissioned, the offshore wind farm is expected to have a capacity of approximately 450MW, providing enough low-carbon electricity to power around 375,000 homes and helping to offset 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
“Neart na Gaoithe,” which translates to “strength of the wind,” represents a key development in the UK’s renewable energy capacity. EDF Renewables UK and Ireland acquired the NnG project in 2018, subsequently selling a 50% stake to Irish energy company ESB in 2019.
