Michael Hannibal, a partner at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) at Stiesdal Offshore, a move aimed at accelerating the company’s efforts in advancing floating wind technology. The appointment strengthens the existing partnership between CIP and Stiesdal Offshore, which was formed last October with the goal of driving large floating wind projects, improving project execution, and reducing costs.
While taking on the role of CCO at Stiesdal Offshore, Hannibal will maintain his position as a partner at CIP but will step back from the daily operations and project decisions of the firm. Martin Neubert, Partner and Chief Information Officer at CIP, expressed his support for Hannibal’s new role, saying, “We are very happy to offer Michael’s unique competences and expertise to Stiesdal Offshore on this very important technology. Floating wind is key to the further development of offshore wind, and with Michael driving this work at Stiesdal, we will accelerate this technology for the market even more.”
Hannibal, who brings more than 20 years of experience in offshore wind, shared his enthusiasm for the new position, stating, “I am excited and privileged to join Stiesdal Offshore as CCO at a crucial time in the development of floating offshore wind. It’s an interesting and challenging new role where I can leverage and combine my industrial and investment experiences.”
He added, “I’m looking forward to collaborating with developers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to move floating offshore wind forward, making it a natural part of the energy mix in many countries. I’m joining Stiesdal with a strong ambition of accelerating Stiesdal Offshore as a market leader within floating offshore, and I look forward to working closely together with the team.”
As CCO, Hannibal will play a key role in managing the overall operations of Stiesdal Offshore, particularly focusing on market-related activities and partnerships with developers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Hannibal’s previous role at CIP saw him heading the firm’s offshore platform, and before joining CIP in 2017, he served as the CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind division.
The floating wind sector is anticipated to experience substantial growth between 2030 and 2040, driven by the increasing demand for offshore wind solutions as more than 70% of the world’s oceans are too deep for traditional seabed-based offshore wind turbines.
