GE Vernova has entered into an agreement with RWE to supply 109 onshore wind turbines for two major wind energy projects in Texas, including the Honey Mesquite Wind Farm in Glasscock County and the Forest Creek Wind Farm near Big Spring.
Under the terms of the deal, GE Vernova will provide 2.8 MW–127m turbines for both projects. The Forest Creek order is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2024, while the Honey Mesquite order will be booked in the third quarter of 2024. Deliveries of the turbines are scheduled to begin later this year.
Once completed, the wind farms will significantly contribute to RWE’s repowered wind capacity in the United States, bringing the company’s total rebuilt capacity across the country to over 1 gigawatt. The projects are projected to generate enough electricity to power more than 85,000 homes and businesses annually in Texas, while supporting hundreds of full-time jobs during peak construction.
RWE also highlighted the positive impact on local manufacturing, as GE Vernova’s Pensacola, Florida facility will produce the nacelles for the turbines. This facility plays a vital role in the U.S. energy supply chain, supporting both domestic energy security and job creation, with about 20% of its workforce consisting of veterans.
Scott Stalica, executive director of North American commercial operations for GE Vernova’s onshore wind business, commented: “We are pleased to have an opportunity to support a leader in the wind industry and appreciate RWE’s confidence in our business, our technology, and our people. These projects are another example of how wind power can support the country’s growing energy needs, while creating U.S. jobs and bolstering energy security.”
Kevin Kroll, Chief Operating Officer at RWE Clean Energy, added: “RWE’s investments in West Texas symbolize our steadfast commitment to producing homegrown energy and strengthening U.S. manufacturing and supply chains through our partnerships with great American companies like GE Vernova. Together, we are contributing to American energy dominance and fostering continued economic opportunity and job creation in rural communities across the country.”
GE Vernova’s onshore wind division currently boasts a global installed base of approximately 56,000 turbines, contributing nearly 120 GW of installed capacity worldwide. The company remains committed to advancing decarbonization efforts through high-quality, affordable, and sustainable renewable energy solutions.
