Low Carbon has announced that its 76MW portfolio of four farms in the Netherlands has reached its commercial operation date (COD). The solar projects, which include Havebos (18MW), Werkhoven (25MW), Keppelseweg (8MW), and Mariahoop (25MW), are now fully operational.

Built in partnership with Belectric, which provided engineering, procurement, and construction services, the projects will generate clean, secure electricity for over 27,000 homes and help reduce carbon emissions by nearly 19,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e).

At the Havebos site, located near Silvolde and Terborg, a study is underway by Wageningen University and Research (WUR) to develop best-practice guidelines for nature-friendly solar parks. The study includes monitoring bat populations and collaborating with the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) to assess the impact of different solar configurations on soil quality and biodiversity.

Roy Bedlow, Founder and Chief Executive of Low Carbon, commented, “We are delighted to reach this critical milestone on four of our Dutch solar assets. This additional capacity will play a crucial role in helping decarbonise the Dutch power grid and further demonstrates our commitment to making a significant impact in the fight against climate change.”

Bedlow also highlighted Low Carbon's pioneering role in renewable energy development in the Netherlands, stating, “Low Carbon was one of the early pioneers to develop large-scale renewables in the Netherlands, and this latest milestone reinforces our team's capability and track record of delivering projects in different markets.”

The completion of these solar farms contributes to the ongoing expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in the Netherlands, supporting the country's climate goals and the broader transition to cleaner energy.
