Cadeler’s Wind Peak vessel has been delayed in arriving at Hull to begin loading turbines for RWE’s 1,400MW Sofia offshore wind farm due to a collision between a tanker and a cargo ship in the North Sea on Monday.

The Wind Peak was originally scheduled to sail into the Siemens Gamesa facility yesterday, according to marine traffic data. However, the vessel has since stopped off the Yorkshire coast, east of the site of the accident. The collision involved the Stena Immaculate, a tanker carrying jet fuel for the US military, and the Portuguese-flagged Solong, which was transporting chemicals.

“We are following the guidelines from the authorities and will wait in position until we have full clearance to enter Hull,” a Cadeler spokesperson told reNEWS. The company noted that approval for entry could take several days. The Wind Peak is set to start installing Siemens Gamesa’s 14MW turbines for the Sofia wind farm later this month, though it was not involved in the collision itself.

The accident resulted in a fire on both ships, prompting the evacuation of 36 crew members to Grimsby. One sailor was hospitalized, while another from the Solong remains missing, according to the Coastguard. Emergency crews continue to work on extinguishing fires aboard the vessels.

Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) operating in the area have assisted with the rescue efforts, providing critical support in the wake of the incident.
