P2X Solutions has officially begun commercial operations at its flagship 20MW green hydrogen plant in Harjavalta, Finland, marking a key milestone in the country’s green hydrogen ambitions. The facility, which uses an electrolyser from Sunfire, is Finland’s first industrial site for the commercial production of green hydrogen.
P2X Solutions CEO, Herkko Plit, expressed his pride in reaching this milestone, stating, “With commercial operation starting at the Harjavalta plant, Finland’s green hydrogen economy is taking a leap from plans into reality. I am extremely proud of our team, which has reached this milestone together. Finland is in a great position to develop into a superpower in clean hydrogen and its derivative electric fuels, and we hope that many projects will follow suit.”
The Harjavalta project is a key step in advancing Finland’s green hydrogen market. Sunfire CEO, Nils Aldag, emphasized the importance of the project, calling it “a flagship project in Europe.” He added, “With the commercial operation of Sunfire’s electrolyser now underway, P2X Solutions has achieved a major milestone in accelerating Finland’s green hydrogen market. We are proud to be part of this pioneering project and congratulate the entire team on this outstanding achievement in Finland’s energy history.”
Finland is positioning itself as a leader in green hydrogen production, with the aim of generating at least 10% of the European Union’s hydrogen by 2030. The country’s focus on hydrogen is supported by €2.3 billion in state funding recently announced to promote renewables, decarbonization of industry, and the development of equipment supply chains.
In addition to P2X Solutions’ Harjavalta plant, Sunfire’s electrolysis technology has also been selected for a 50MW green hydrogen plant being developed by Ren-Gas in Tampere, further underscoring Finland’s growing role in the green hydrogen sector.
