Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has announced the selection of SALT as the naval architect and ZPMC as the shipyard for the construction of three new service operation vessels (SOVs) for Vattenfall. This new order follows a longstanding partnership between LDA and SALT, who have previously collaborated on projects such as the Wind of Change and Wind of Hope.
SALT, a key partner of LDA for over five years, has been entrusted with the design and development of the new vessels, which will feature a complete redesign aimed at improving operational efficiency. These enhancements will focus on optimizing uptime, reducing energy consumption, and improving safety for technicians and crew. The vessels will also incorporate features that enhance crew comfort, transforming them into “floating hotels.”
In a statement, Kamil Beffa, CEO of LDA, said, “With the expertise of SALT in naval architecture and the proven industrial capabilities of ZPMC, we are confident that these new SOVs will set a new benchmark in offshore wind operations.”
The new vessels will be equipped with advanced technologies, including four azimuth thrusters for better maneuverability, superior dynamic positioning (DP) performance, and an advanced gangway system. Additionally, a 3D motion-compensated crane will be featured to enhance operational capabilities.
ZPMC, based in Shanghai, has been selected as the shipyard for the construction of the SOVs. The company has a longstanding presence in the offshore vessel sector, with a proven track record in delivering heavy lift vessels, wind turbine installation vessels, and cable laying vessels, among others. The vessels will integrate high-end European components to ensure top-tier performance and reliability.
LDA's ongoing commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction is reflected in this project, which is designed to meet the specific needs of offshore wind operations. As Beffa noted, “Our commitment to operational excellence and comfort on board remains at the forefront of this project, and we look forward to delivering vessels that will serve as references in the offshore wind industry.
The new vessels will represent the next generation of service operation vessels, continuing LDA's efforts to design, build, and operate highly efficient and reliable vessels for the offshore wind sector.
