The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has granted planning approval for Iberdrola's 315MW Windanker offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea. The approval marks a significant step forward in the development of the project, which is expected to be commissioned by 2026.
The decision was formally handed over to Iberdrola Deutschland CEO Felipe Montero, Project Director Jesus Rodriguez de Diego Zamorano, and Sergej Drechsel, Head of Offshore Development, by Jeannette Edler, the leader of the proceedings, in a ceremony held in Rostock.
Windanker will be part of Iberdrola's Baltic Hub, which, along with the Wikinger and Baltic Eagle offshore wind farms, will collectively contribute 1.1GW of capacity. The Windanker project will consist of 21 wind turbines, each with a 15MW capacity.
Kansai, a Japanese investor, will hold a 49% stake in the Windanker wind farm, while Iberdrola will retain control with the remaining 51%. The wind farm has already secured long-term contracts for 100% of its expected production.
This approval adds momentum to Iberdrola's ongoing commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio, particularly in the offshore wind sector.
