National Grid Renewables has officially commenced onsite construction at its 117MW Sycamore Creek Solar Project in Crawford County, Ohio, within the PJM market. The project, once operational, is expected to generate approximately $27 million in direct economic benefits for the local community.
Joe Ibrahim, vice president of construction at National Grid Renewables, highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable energy in Ohio, noting, “Sycamore Creek is our fifth solar project to begin construction within the state, and we want to thank Ohioans for their support as we continue to grow our portfolio in Ohio.”
Sycamore Creek is poised to provide a range of benefits for the local community, including the creation of new tax revenue, jobs, and charitable contributions. The project is anticipated to generate $16 million in new tax revenue for Crawford County, along with local townships, school districts, and emergency services once operational. During the construction phase, the project will support approximately 160 construction jobs.
National Grid Renewables has partnered with Kiewit Power Constructors for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of Sycamore Creek, continuing a successful collaboration on previous Ohio-based solar projects. Brian Koller, vice president of Kiewit Power Constructors, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership, stating, “Together, we are building a sustainable future while creating significant economic benefits for the communities we serve. This marks another milestone in our shared commitment to advancing clean energy solutions across Ohio.”
Upon completion, Sycamore Creek will contribute to expanding National Grid Renewables’ Ohio solar portfolio to over 675MW of construction and operational projects. The new facility follows the completion of Yellowbud Solar, the company’s first and largest Ohio project, which began operations in late 2023, as well as current construction projects at Dodson Creek Solar, Ross County Solar, and Fayette Solar.
