The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy has proposed a temporary suspension of the ongoing offshore wind park tender to reassess the conditions of the offer. The Ministry stated that the move is necessary to ensure that the impact on electricity prices for consumers remains as low as possible after the tender is finalized.
A draft resolution outlining the proposed halt has been prepared and is currently undergoing institutional coordination. “Given that the tender has already been announced, we request that conclusions on the draft resolution be submitted as a matter of urgency within three working days from its publication,” the Ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry emphasized the need for a swift review and assessment of the tender conditions before proceeding further. Once the government decides on the renewal of the tender procedures, the process will resume according to the regulations established under Lithuania's Law on Renewable Resources.
The tender aims to select a developer for a 700MW offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. Bidders are required to submit their applications and necessary documentation to the Lithuanian National Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) by March 18, 2025.
