Conrad Energy Partners with KX Power to Optimize Immingham Battery Storage System

LONDON (Reuters) – Conrad Energy has secured a partnership with KX Power to optimize the performance of the 80MW/160MWh System (BESS) at Immingham. The agreement will see Conrad Energy's trading desk deployed to ensure peak operational efficiency for KX Power's battery system, which is expected to go live in the first quarter of this year.

Under the terms of the agreement, Conrad Energy will monitor trading, balancing, flexibility, and frequency markets to ensure the system's storage capacity is utilized in the most profitable and effective manner. The platform will aim to dispatch energy at the right time and for the appropriate duration, maximizing both profitability and the operational lifespan of the storage system.

“We are incredibly excited about working with KX Power to optimise the Immingham battery asset,” said Damian Darragh, Chairman of Conrad Energy. “Over the next three years, we'll be operating the state-of-the-art 160MWh system efficiently, providing critical stability and flexibility to the GB network.

The Immingham BESS will integrate with Conrad Energy's platform immediately following the activation of the agreement, marking a significant step in optimizing the UK's energy storage capacity.

Olivia He, Chief Investment Officer at KX Power, expressed confidence in the partnership: “Conrad Energy has a track record of successfully optimising their own assets as well as offering a strong balance sheet and flexible contracting. We're confident that their trading desk will ensure the battery system at Immingham is optimised in the most efficient way possible.

Conrad Energy's portfolio includes 83 sites either operational or under construction, with a potential to generate 983MW of power across a range of technologies, including gas, batteries, solar, wind, and hydrogen. The company also provides optimization services for third-party energy assets, further strengthening its role in the sector.
