DTEK Renewables International (DRI), the European renewables arm of Ukraine's DTEK, has finalized a landmark solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with OMV Petrom, Southeastern Europe's largest integrated energy producer. The deal represents the largest physical solar PPA in Romania to date.
The agreement spans 8.5 years and covers the sale of approximately 100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually at a fixed rate. It includes physical electricity supply and Guarantees of Origin, starting in January 2026.
Under the terms, OMV Petrom will initially purchase 62% of the energy generated by DRI's Glodeni 1 and Glodeni 2 solar plants, which have a combined capacity of 113 megawatt-peak (MWp). From January 2027, the agreement will expand to include 50% of the output from DRI's upcoming 126MWp Vacaresti solar project, scheduled for construction in 2025.
“Securing long-term corporate offtake agreements is essential to facilitate renewable energy growth, and it demonstrates that clean energy offers a competitive alternative,” said DRI CEO John Stuart. “With this agreement, we help to both accelerate Romania's energy transition and OMV Petrom's strategic goals.”
DRI currently manages a renewable energy portfolio of 299MW in Romania, including the country's first wind farm built in a decade. The company aims to develop 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy and battery storage projects in Romania by 2030, reflecting its commitment to regional clean energy expansion.
