Energy and marine consultancy ABL has been contracted to provide marine warranty survey (MWS) services for the construction of Iberdrola's 315MW Windanker offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea.
The Hamburg-based ABL Germany will oversee offshore transportation and installation operations for foundations, inter-array cables, and wind turbine generators (WTGs). The consultancy's work will involve reviewing and approving documents, operations, and vessels related to the warranted assets to ensure safety and efficiency.
“We are delighted to have been awarded the Windanker contract following our recent collaboration with Iberdrola on the Baltic Eagle project,” said Tilo Klappenbach, ABL's country manager in Germany. “Our main role is to help minimise risk and to ensure that offshore operations are conducted safely and efficiently.”
Windanker is located approximately 25 kilometers offshore in the Baltic Sea and will consist of 21 turbines with a combined capacity of 315MW. Installation activities are planned for 2025 and 2026, with the project expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
The project builds on ABL's experience in offshore wind farm support, with Klappenbach noting, “We have an extensive track record of supporting offshore wind farm projects, and we will apply this know-how to the Windanker project.”
