German cleantech unicorn 1Komma5 has announced a EUR 100 million (USD 105.6 million) investment over the next three years to develop its energy management platform, Heartbeat AI, which will be spun off into a wholly-owned subsidiary. The investment aims to establish Heartbeat AI as Europe's largest virtual power plant (VPP).
Heartbeat AI is an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven platform designed to optimize energy systems in homes by managing various assets such as batteries, heat pumps, and electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
By connecting thousands of households, Heartbeat AI forms a VPP that alleviates grid pressure and generates cost savings for customers. The platform's new features are expected to help users with larger batteries generate up to EUR 1,000 in annual revenue.
The new subsidiary, 1Komma5 Heartbeat GmbH, will consolidate the company's AI and software operations. Through this initiative, 1Komma5 plans to scale its customer base, enhance its capabilities, and broaden its market reach. The company anticipates generating software-as-a-service (SaaS) revenues in the mid-double-digit million range by 2025.
The subsidiary will be co-led by 1Komma5's Chief Technology Officer Barbara Wittenberg and Chief Product Officer Jannik Schall.
