EVLO Energy Storage Inc., a subsidiary of Hydro-Québec, has secured a contract to develop three battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity exceeding 300 MWh for Dominion Energy, a US-based utility company.
The BESS units will be constructed in Virginia, utilizing EVLO's fully integrated utility-grade storage solution, EVLOFLEX, which achieved UL 9540 certification in March 2024. The projects are slated for completion in 2025 and 2026, according to a press statement.
The agreement is part of Dominion's ongoing efforts to modernize its grid infrastructure and supports Virginia's Clean Economy Act (VCEA), which targets 100% clean energy in the state by 2050. EVLO's involvement also aligns with Dominion's 2024 Integrated Resource Plan, which envisions around 20 GW of additional carbon-free power generation over the next 15 years.
This partnership builds on a similar announcement made by EVLO in September 2024, where the company revealed plans to deploy three additional EVLOFLEX BESS units with comparable storage capacity in Virginia.
