Sunfire GmbH, a leading German electrolyser manufacturer, has been selected to provide 50 MW of pressurised alkaline electrolysers for Ren-Gas' e-methane project in Finland. The project, located in Tampere, is part of a broader initiative to convert renewable electricity into green hydrogen for e-methane production.
The agreement covers the delivery of five 10-MW electrolysis modules, which Sunfire will design, produce, test, and deliver. The company will also manage the installation, commissioning, and performance testing of the electrolysis units. These systems will play a pivotal role in converting renewable power into green hydrogen, which will then be used to produce e-methane.
The Tampere power-to-gas facility is expected to generate approximately 200 GWh of renewable fuel annually for heavy road and maritime transport. Additionally, 180 GWh will be produced to support Tampere's district heating network. In early 2024, Finnish state-owned energy company Gasum Oy signed an off-take agreement to purchase 160 GWh of renewable e-methane per year from the site, starting in 2026.
Construction of the e-methane facility is scheduled to begin in 2025, with operations expected to start in 2027.
