Iberdrola Australia, the Australian arm of Spanish utility Iberdrola SA, has secured a deal to supply over 390 GWh of renewable electricity to 13 regional councils in New South Wales through 2030.
The electricity will be delivered via a collective power purchase agreement (PPA) facilitated by the Hunter Joint Organisation, which includes four participating councils.
The agreement covers power for 163 council sites and streetlighting, with some councils, such as Maitland, MidCoast, and Muswellbrook, opting for 100% renewable energy supplies.
Iberdrola will fulfill its commitment by supplying electricity from its operational renewable assets, including the 140.7-MW Capital wind farm, the 245-MW Avonlie solar park, and the 113.2-MW Bodangora wind farm, all located in New South Wales.
The Hunter Joint Organisation estimates the PPA will result in savings of approximately AUD 2 million (USD 1.3 million/EUR 1.2 million) for its four member councils.
