Tion Renewables and Nobian have entered into a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) in Germany, marking a significant step in both companies' sustainability initiatives. Under the agreement, Tion will supply electricity from its existing operational portfolio to Nobian's electrolysis plant in Bitterfeld, located in eastern Germany. The electricity will be used to cover the plant's consumption during periods of high wind, contributing to Nobian's sustainability goals.
Unlike typical PPAs, which are usually signed for new plants and span 10 to 15 years to secure long-term price stability and financing, this agreement will see Tion provide electricity for a shorter period of around three years.
Johan Hospers, Director of Energy at Nobian, highlighted that this agreement reinforces the company's commitment to sourcing electricity from the countries where it operates, furthering its sustainability efforts across Europe. Nobian is also pursuing additional PPAs in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark to expand its renewable energy portfolio and lower CO2 emissions in its production processes for products like salt, chlorine, caustic soda, and hydrogen.
“After the successful conclusion of PPAs in the Netherlands and Finland, this new partnership with Tion Renewables in Germany exemplifies Nobian's commitment to the transition to a sustainable energy supply,” Hospers added.
