The 600-MW Al Shuaibah 1 solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Saudi Arabia has started commercial operations, ACWA Power announced.
The Riyadh-based renewable energy developer received the Commercial Operation Certificate from the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), confirming the plant's full production capacity.
Al Shuaibah 1 is one of two solar projects in Makkah Province, located approximately 80 kilometers south of Jeddah. The second, Al Shuaibah 2, will have a capacity of 2,060 MWac.
Under a 35-year power purchase agreement (PPA), SPPC will procure electricity generated by both facilities.
The projects, developed by Shuaibah Holding Company (SHC), are backed by SAR 8.25 billion (USD 2.2 billion) in investments, with ACWA Power holding a 35.01% stake in SHC. Both solar plants are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
