Chinese solar manufacturer LONGi Green Technology Energy Co has achieved a world record 25.4% efficiency for its crystalline silicon solar module, as confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Germany.

The breakthrough module uses LONGi’s proprietary HPBC (Hybrid Passivated Back Contact) 2.0 technology, advancing on traditional designs by relocating electrical contacts to the cell’s rear. This innovation reduces shading, enhancing sunlight absorption and efficiency.

This new record surpasses the 25% efficiency previously held by photovoltaics researcher Martin Green and the NREL and outperforms the 24.9% efficiency achieved by Interdigitated Back Contact (IBC) modules earlier in 2024.

Following its initial HPBC technology introduction in 2022, LONGi plans to launch the upgraded HPBC 2.0 module in 2025.
