Chile saw a significant rise in renewable energy output in September, with non-conventional renewables contributing 45.5% of the country's electricity, according to the Chilean national energy commission (CNE).
This increase follows a 38.6% renewables share in August and reflects a substantial growth in green energy production amidst a decline in conventional energy sources.
Non-conventional renewables, excluding large hydro, generated 3,049 GWh of electricity in September—a 10.4% rise from August and a 22.3% increase compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, conventional energy sources produced 3,647 GWh, marking a month-on-month decline of 17.1% and a year-on-year reduction of 16.0%, underscoring Chile's growing shift away from traditional power sources.
Total electricity generation in Chile reached 6,696 GWh in September, down by 6.5% from August and 2.0% compared to September 2023.
The report also highlighted an expansion in Chile's renewable capacity, with non-conventional renewable energy capacity increasing from 15,772 MW in August to 16,244 MW in September.
