Avina Clean Hydrogen, a U.S. developer of clean fuel plants, has marked the start of construction on a hydrogen production facility in Southern California.
The plant, which will include a refueling station, is designed to produce up to four metric tonnes of compressed green hydrogen per day using electrolysis, a process that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen with clean electricity.
Located in the City of Vernon, just 10 miles from the Port of Long Beach, the facility is strategically positioned to support key transportation corridors and urban markets in the region. Avina expects the plant to be operational by July 2025, having secured key environmental permits.
“Our facility's strategic location in Southern California allows us to serve critical transportation corridors and urban markets, helping meet the growing demand for clean hydrogen across the region,” said Vishal Shah, CEO of Avina.
Avina designs, builds, and operates clean fuel plants serving industries including maritime, aviation, and mobility. The company has a pipeline of 3 GW of clean hydrogen projects under development.
