Canadian Premium Sand Inc has announced substantial progress on its planned solar glass manufacturing facilities in Canada and the US, aiming for a combined production capacity of 10 GW annually.
In Canada, CPS is advancing its CAD 880-million Selkirk Project in Manitoba, designed to produce 800 tonnes of patterned solar glass daily, translating to a 6 GW annual output.
The company is progressing with up to CAD 272 million in financial support from the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba, as initially agreed in September. CPS has entered the due diligence phase for CAD 100 million in non-dilutive financial backing and is finalizing details for CAD 72 million from Manitoba.
The firm is also coordinating with indigenous groups for CAD 100 million in support through the federal Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program.
In response to strong US demand driven by the Inflation Reduction Act, CPS will establish a second solar glass manufacturing site in the United States. The site, which will repurpose a former glass production facility, is set to provide an additional 4 GW of annual capacity.
CPS has applied for investment tax credits from the US Department of Energy, with a decision expected in early 2025, and is seeking a strategic glass manufacturing partner for joint development of the facility.
