Prysmian Group and TechnipFMC have entered a collaboration agreement aimed at accelerating the development of floating offshore wind energy through a comprehensive, integrated solution that spans the entire water column from the seabed to the ocean's surface.
The collaboration will combine TechnipFMC's expertise in system design and dynamic offshore applications with Prysmian's strengths in producing and installing submarine power cable systems. The two companies plan to deploy an integrated Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) model to deliver an optimized mooring, anchoring, inter-array, and export cable system.
This integrated approach aims to improve project economics and reduce execution risks for floating offshore wind projects by streamlining the installation and maintenance processes. Prysmian CEO Massimo Battaini emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “This agreement is a great example of a solid cooperation between two industry leaders. Prysmian's leadership is defined by our unwavering commitment to innovation.”
TechnipFMC's CEO Doug Pferdehirt also highlighted the partnership's impact, noting, “The collaboration strengthens both companies' position in this emerging market by providing an integrated solution that accelerates time to first power and reduces cost, while improving overall system reliability.”
The collaboration is set to play a pivotal role in advancing global energy transition efforts by supporting the growth of floating offshore wind, a key component of sustainable energy solutions.
