Ørsted Calls for Competition for Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm in Poland

Ørsted, a leading wind developer, has announced a call for competition to transport and install foundations and offshore substations for the Baltica 2 offshore in Poland. The project, which has a capacity of up to 2.5 GW, will be developed in two stages: Baltica 2 and Baltica 3.

The company plans to use the Achilles Utilities NCE qualification system for procurement and expects to commence the tender in May or June 2023. Suppliers can apply for qualification at any time by completing an order form and paying an annual qualification fee of EUR 220 to EUR 985.

In addition, Ørsted has issued a separate call for competition for the landfall horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and associated works. The company plans to use the UNCE qualification system for procurement and expects to launch the tender via said qualification system as early as week 27 of 2023 (from 3 July until 9 July). The scope of the project includes all activities necessary to complete the construction of four HDDs for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm.

Recently, Ørsted and PGE, the developers of the wind farm, selected 's 14 MW wind turbines to be installed on top of the foundations. The project has already obtained the environmental decision for the offshore wind farm in January 2020, as well as the location decisions (PSC) and the connection agreements to the transmission network with the operator (PSE), and has been granted the right to a differential contract (CfD).

The wind farm will be developed in the part of the Baltic Sea between Łeba and Ustka, with the closest wind turbines to the shore at least 25 kilometres away. The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm is expected to be commissioned in 2027, and the closing of financing for this investment is planned for next year. The project is expected to make a significant contribution to Poland's targets and help reduce carbon emissions.
