UK-based global solar developer Lightsource bp has entered into a virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) with Swedish fashion chain H&M Group to support the construction of a 125-MW solar park in Texas.
The announcement, made on Thursday, highlights the ongoing installation of the Second Division photovoltaic (PV) park in Brazoria County, which is a wholly-owned unit of BP Plc .
Once operational, the solar facility is expected to help H&M Group reduce its carbon footprint, offsetting approximately 155,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The Second Division plant is scheduled to begin operations by the end of this year and will generate enough electricity to power around 20,500 homes.
The partnership between H&M Group and Lightsource bp dates back to 2021 when they committed to a multi-year power contract aimed at expanding renewable energy resources.
This collaboration aligns with H&M Group's ambitious sustainability goals, including sourcing 100% renewable electricity for its operations by 2030, with over 50% coming from new projects under PPAs, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
