Turkish flat-rolled aluminium producer Assan Aluminium has announced the acquisition of a 10-MWp operational solar farm located in south central Turkey, part of its broader strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The solar facility, which covers an area of 11.37 hectares in Karaman, will complement Assan Aluminium's existing renewable energy assets, including a hydroelectric power facility in Manavgat that generates electricity nearly equivalent to the company's annual consumption.
General Manager Goksal Gungor stated, “With this solar power plant, we are taking another important step toward increasing our renewable energy portfolio and reducing our carbon emissions. Our mission is to ‘produce the future without wasting it,' and this acquisition reflects our commitment to lowering our carbon intensity, therefore contributing to a circular economy.”
The acquisition comes after Assan Aluminium secured a USD 90 million (EUR 83.2 million) green financing package from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), making it the first company in its sector to receive a 100% climate-labelled green loan.
