Duo UK has made a significant investment in a large-scale rooftop solar installation through Shawton Energy, aligning with its ‘Pact for the Planet' initiative aimed at reducing carbon emissions. The installation, fully funded by Duo UK, will feature 1,042 solar panels and 12 inverters atop the company's 44,000 sq. ft warehouse in Manchester.
The project is set to be completed within six weeks and is expected to generate approximately 504,070 kWh of energy annually. This initiative is projected to save the 36-year-old packaging manufacturer around 106,799 kg of carbon emissions each year, which is comparable to the emissions from 66 flights from Manchester to Australia.
Jamie Shaw, Managing Director of Shawton Energy, emphasized the growing trend among businesses to adopt sustainable practices. “Businesses are increasingly looking for ways to make their operations more sustainable and reduce carbon, and we're proud to be supporting Duo UK in their quest for cleaner, greener energy,” he stated. Shaw added that manufacturers are motivated by supply chain pressures to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and that generating renewable energy on-site provides both environmental efficiencies and protection against market volatility.
Dale Brimelow, Operations Director at Duo UK, noted the company's commitment to sustainability. “Sustainability is at the core of everything we do at Duo – in terms of culture, our products, and how we operate. This project is a significant step forward, and we're delighted to be partnering with Shawton Energy to deliver on our environmental objectives,” he said.
Duo UK supplies plastic packaging solutions to clients such as The Regatta Group, Tesco, QVC, and JD Sports, while Shawton Energy has provided solar solutions for brands like Heinz, Nestlé, Hilton, and Princes.
